Overview:

Toileting is a very private personal activity that can have some unpleasant aspects. The caregiver must be sensitive to the individual's needs and provide supportive care to lessen embarrassment and discomfort that can occur. To teach new nursing assistants these important skills, this program demonstrates the techniques for toileting.

Objectives:

Medcom’s Nursing Assistant program on toileting and incontinent care has been revised to be more concise and easier to understand by clearly identifying each of the three stages of a procedure: preparation, the procedure itself and completing care. In addition, this program has been updated to demonstrate the performance of nursing assistant skills as described by the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP™).

Using this format, this program will demonstrate:

  • assisting an individual when using the toilet
  • offering a bedpan or urinal
  • using a portable bedside commode
  • changing incontinent briefs
  • assisting with bowel and bladder training
