Overview:

Updated 3/13/08: Oral care should be provided on a daily basis to all those who are in any form of nursing care. The purpose of oral hygiene is to keep the mouth, teeth, gums, and tongue healthy. Poor mouth care can lead to tooth decay, gum disease and a lack of appetite.

Objectives:

Medcom’s Nursing Assistant program on providing oral care has been revised to be more concise and easier to understand by clearly identifying each of the three stages of a procedure: preparation, the procedure itself, and completing care. Using this format, this program will demonstrate:

• Assisted oral care
• Denture care
• Oral care for the unconscious person
